Ladies Golf
Ladies Golf is extemly popular and gains in popularity constantly.
The Ladies' Golf Union (LGU) is the governing body for women's and girls' amateur golf in Great Britain and Ireland. It was founded in 1893 and is based in St Andrews, Fife, Scotland.
The LGU administers the Women's British Open, one of the major championships in global women's golf, which is open to professionals. It also runs several all Britain and Ireland championships: Amateur, Mid Amateur, Girls', Stroke Play, and Seniors. Additionally there are several competitions for club golfers.
The English Ladies' Golf Association (ELGA) is the governing body responsible for many aspects of women's and girls' amateur golf in England.
It is based at Edgbaston Golf Club in Birmingham.
The ELGA was founded in 1952 as an offshoot of the Ladies Golf Union.
The ELGA and its counterparts in Ireland, Scotland and Wales handle local events in their own countries, the handicapping system through their membership of CONGU (the Council Of National Golf Unions) , and liaison with clubs. The ELGA is also responsible for promoting golf to girls and women in England.
